WE WON! WE REALLY WON! Thank you to everyone who stood by our crucial befriending services. Please see this statement from the DCC cabinet, released earlier today:
“This morning the Derbyshire County Council Cabinet approved Agenda Item 19 in full – ‘Consultation on Grant Funding 2016/17’ .
The recommendations that Cabinet agreed to were as follows:
To continue funding for services listed in Appendix 6 for 18 months to commence on 1 October 2016 with agreements to end on 31 March 2018, subject to review and further consultation if appropriate.
Both Joy Hollister, Strategic Director of Adult Care and Paul Smith,Cabinet Member for Adult Care that the VCS Investment Review were keen to say that the review of voluntary secor grant funding has changed the way the Council thinks about the value of the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS).
They stressed this was thanks to the great response they had from the sector itself and the public. Joy went on to say that, extending the funding for 18 months is seen as a commitment to the VCS and that Derbyshire County Council is keen to work with voluntary groups and organisations to support their sustainability.”
Necessarily formal, but essentially this means the key befriending services in Chesterfield and NE Derbyshire have secure funding, from DCC, for at least a year and a half. THAT IS A FANTASTIC RESULT! And as you can see, it happened because we made our case clearly and assertively.
There’ll be more to explain and discuss in the next few days. But for now, enjoy this outcome and give yourselves huge congratulations. WE WON.
