Derbyshire Parent Champions
The role of a Parent Champion involves helping parents to understand what their options are around early years and childcare support, particularly around the early years funding for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. This should increase parental awareness of the childcare offers available to them and increase take up. The principle behind this is that parents are more likely to listen to other parents rather than a professional. Parent Champions talk to parents in many places, such as playgroups, Children’s Centres, libraries and any local events. If possible, we would like volunteers to spare around 5 hours each week which can fit around any commitments they have. This role can be undertaken whilst carrying out other volunteer roles.
The free training which is provided by Coram Family and Childcare will take place on 11th March and 18th March 2019, for which there is a maximum of 12 places. The training will be open to parents in Bolsover, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire.
The training on the 18th March will be a couple of hours to discuss the requirements from a Derbyshire County Council perspective, the resources available to support parents and the practicalities of carrying out the role.
